Arcadia : Talks to Resume on Project

Share

The Redevelopment Agency voted Tuesday to resume negotiations with WLA Arcon Inc./Schaefer Brothers, Ltd. to build a medical office building and a restaurant on the southwest corner of Huntington Drive and 2nd Avenue.

The discussions were put on hold last month after The Derby restaurant, which had expressed an interest in becoming a tenant on the 56,405-square-foot site, withdrew from the project.

Arcon President Warren Lortie said there is a good chance that the Red Lobster Restaurant would be willing to move in instead. His current proposal calls for a two-story, 13,000-square-foot office building, with a restaurant of about 9,300 square feet.

The Redevelopment Agency, composed of members of the City Council, voted 4 to 1 to resume negotiations. Mayor Pro Tem Charles Gilb, who cast the only vote against the proposal, said he preferred a plan by Champion Development Co. to put a retail center on the site.
