William A. Moffett, director of libraries at Oberlin College in Ohio, has been appointed librarian of the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens.

He succeeds Daniel H. Woodward, who is stepping down to become a senior research associate.

Moffett, 58, graduated from Davidson College and received master’s and doctoral degrees from Duke University. At the Huntington, he will oversee a staff of 50 and collections of more than 600,000 books, 750,000 prints, maps and photographs, and 2 million manuscripts.
