Officer Awarded $6,250 in Alleged Beating

A Los Angeles police officer has been awarded $6,250 for injuries he suffered in 1987 when he was allegedly roughed up by two uniformed LAPD patrolmen during a traffic stop.

Officer Glen E. Younger sued the two officers for $8 million, alleging that he received a sprained wrist, a sore shoulder and bruises after being pulled over and beaten despite his pleadings that he, too, was an officer on duty.

Younger, who was patrolling for prostitutes, was driving an unmarked car and was not in uniform when he was stopped near downtown.

Officers Nicholas C. Sinibaldi and John B. Wilson contended that Younger never properly identified himself, refused their initial orders and made a move that prompted them to take defensive action.

An internal investigation cleared the two of any wrongdoing.

Deputy City Atty. Patricia Kinaga, who defended Sinibaldi and Wilson, said Monday that she was pleased by the June 4 settlement. Younger could not be reached for comment.
