From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Efforts to press drug charges against a dozen Colombians were dropped when 50,000 pounds of marijuana they allegedly dumped into the sea from their disabled 100-foot trawler failed to wash ashore, federal authorities said. The seamen, along with the vessel’s captain, were arrested when their boat encountered a Navy warship May 26 off Half Moon Bay. Assistant U.S. Atty. Eric Swenson indicated that the government still suspects the men of drug smuggling but had no evidence.
