Paul Magasin, 78; Lawyer, Ex-U.S. Official
Paul Magasin, a Los Angeles attorney who investigated subversive activities for the government during the early years of World War II and then became an assistant U.S. attorney, died Saturday in a Los Angeles hospital. He was 78 and died of the complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Magasin, who most recently represented many film stars involved in domestic disputes, first joined the Federal Works Agency as an investigator in 1941. He later was in charge of disposing of federal property and investments in the Western states. From 1949 to 1953 he was with the Justice Department here as senior trial attorney prosecuting tax evasion cases.
He also was judge pro tem in Beverly Hills and Culver City.
Survivors include his wife, Inna, three children, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a brother.
