WORLD IN BRIEF : NEPAL : Amnesty Granted to Jailed Christians

Nepal will free all Christian prisoners who were jailed by the former government for illegal proselytizing, the royal palace said. It said King Birendra has “granted amnesty to all religious prisoners” on the advice of the prime minister in view of the “new political environment. . . .” There are 29 Christians, including 14 below age 18, serving sentences for proselytizing in the Hindu kingdom.
