From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The emir of Kuwait asked the crown prince to form a new government to replace his old one, which resigned as expected one day after elections for a newly created interim National Council. Crown Prince Saad al Abdullah al Sabah, who is also prime minister, is expected to name his new Cabinet next week, but political sources predicted it will be only slightly different from the old one. Government supporters took all 50 seats in the elections, which were boycotted by the opposition; the other 25 members of the 75-member council will be appointed by the emir. The council, which will exist for four years, will draw up guidelines for a future Parliament.
