Case Resurrected: The 91-year-old widow of Bruno Richard Hauptmann--who was executed in 1936 for the kidnap-murder of aviation hero Charles Lindbergh’s 20-month-old son--said Tuesday in Trenton, N.J., she wants Gov. Jim Florio to declare her husband innocent. Anna Hauptmann wants to reopen the case based on documents not released at the trial. Florio said determining whether a trial was fair “is something for which there are legal remedies.”

Trip to Mecca: Famed French flier Armand Lotti traveled to Kill Devil Hills, N.C., for a sentimental visit Wednesday to the cradle of aviation. “I must not die before going at least once to Mecca,” Lotti, 92, said of the North Carolina memorial where Orville and Wilbur Wright achieved the first sustained, powered human flight in 1903. Lotti gained fame after a flight from Maine to Spain in 1929.

Divorcing: Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Ore.) has filed for divorce from his wife of 25 years, Georgie, citing irreconcilable differences. Packwood said Tuesday the trial separation they began in January “has not led to a reconciliation.” The petition requires the senator to pay child support while his 18-year-old daughter is in school.

Bushwhacked: Given the chance to have a famous father, children prefer a member of New Kids on the Block over George Bush. A poll of 400 boys and girls at Sesame Place theme park in Langhorne, Pa., showed 37% chose a member of the rock group; 18% picked entertainer Bill Cosby. The President was selected by 10%.
