WORLD IN BRIEF : MYANMAR : Opposition Leader’s Release Demanded

Ba Tin Swe, president of the Patriotic Youth League, demanded the release of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest, saying her leadership is necessary to tackle the many problems of Myanmar, formerly Burma. Aung San Suu Kyi, 45, has been under house arrest since last July because of political speeches and rallies. Her party won massive public support in Myanmar’s elections on May 27, but diplomats have expressed concern that the military will try to delay yielding power to civilians.
