Clark Sues Saints for a Bad Cut

Share

Bruce Clark has filed a $1.3-million suit against the New Orleans Saints, saying that the team used a phony “eyeball physical” to avoid paying the former Pro Bowl defensive end in accordance with his no-cut contract.

The lawsuit says that the only physical examination specified in Clark’s contract was one given by the team physician, which Clark passed, and asks payment for the amount that Clark would have earned if his 1989 and ’90 contracts had been honored.

Clark, who played last season for the Kansas City Chiefs, charges that General Manager Jim Finks of the Saints said in the presence of reporters that Clark was waived by the Saints for not passing an “eyeball physical.”

The lawsuit claims that the remark was understood to mean that Clark was physically unfit to play pro football.
