Soviets Enter Second Challenger for America’s Cup

A second Soviet entry, the Leningrad Yacht Club, has increased the number of 1992 America’s Cup challengers to 21, from 15 countries, the America’s Cup Organizing Commmittee announced Thursday in San Diego.
The deadline for posting $25,000 entry fees was May 26, but Leningrad--designated as the Red Star Syndicate--was granted a two-week extension because of difficulties in transferring money to the United States, the committee said.
The other Soviet entry is from the Odessa Arcadia Yacht Racing Club. The Soviet Union has never participated in the America’s Cup.
