France Clears $698-Million Debt Owed by Madagascar
ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar —
France has canceled $698 million in debt owed by Madagascar in a move expected to help fuel the island nation’s economic reforms.
An agreement forgiving the debt was signed in the capital Thursday night shortly after President Francois Mitterrand’s arrival from the Comoros on the final stop of his five-day tour.
