Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Black Students Rally for Aid to Education

Several hundred student leaders from America’s predominantly black colleges and universities held a rally across the street from the White House to urge President Bush and Congress to increase federal aid to education and “develop a national agenda for confronting racism.” The rally opened what its sponsors, the National Collegiate Black Caucus, described as a student call to Washington for an action week: “teach-ins” at Howard University, lobbying on Capitol Hill and a march in front of the Supreme Court.
