Great Western to Buy Florida Offices: Great Western Bank, seeking to expand its presence in Florida, said it will buy 13 Florida offices of Carteret Savings Bank and the deposits of those branches for $26.5 million. Great Western, the nation’s second-largest thrift, will assume deposits totaling $700 million under terms of the deal. The transaction will increase Great Western’s Florida deposits to $2.4 billion and raise the number of Florida retail bank branches to more than 60.
