Cudahy : Ordinances Passed Limiting Card Casinos, Bingo Games

The Cudahy City Council, making good on the election campaign promise of three of its members, has passed two ordinances that strictly limit gambling within the city.

The council voted 4 to 1 earlier this month to pass an ordinance that decreases the number of card casinos allowed in the tiny city from two to one. The council also passed an ordinance that limits bingo games within the city to once a week for no longer than eight hours a session. The bingo ordinance also mandates that organizations applying for a licenses consist of at least 50% Cudahy residents.

Bingo has been a contentious issue in Cudahy for the past few years because some council members have said that recent bingo game proposals thwarted the intent of the original ordinance, which allowed bingo games only as a fund-raising activity for local organizations.

During the election campaign, victorious candidates Alex Rodriguez, Jack Cluck and incumbent candidate Joseph Graffio ran on a no-gambling platform.
