WORLD IN BRIEF : HAITI : Gunmen Kill 1, Wound 2 at Meeting

Four unidentified gunmen opened fire outside a meeting in Port-au-Prince between trade unionists and the Council of State, killing one person and wounding two. Serge Villard, the private sector’s representative on the council, was one of the wounded, according to spokesman Venel Remarais. The council is a quasi-legislative body that has a key role in organizing democratic elections this fall.
