P.M. BRIEFING : UPS-Union Talks Break Down
Talks have broken down between United Parcel Service and its union on a three-year contract, but the company’s 141,000 workers will still vote next month on its final offer, a published report said today.
Two representatives from each of 212 Teamsters Union locals nationwide met for a final time in Chicago on Tuesday with UPS officials. Another negotiating session is not scheduled before the current contract expires July 31.
Union officials told the Chicago Tribune that they will mail copies of the final contract offer to members and that a vote is scheduled to begin July 9. Results will not be known until July 30.
The union is demanding an increase of $1 per hour in each year of the contract. UPS is offering 50 cents per hour. Drivers currently earn $16.24 per hour.
