From Times staff and wire service reports

A Juvenile Court judge refused today to release a 14-year-old boy, who is accused of shooting his younger sister to death, to the custody of his parents, citing previous weapons violations and concluding that the boy may pose an extreme danger.

During a detention hearing, Deputy Dist. Atty. Brent Romney argued that there is evidence Richard Hubler “was not on good terms” with his 12-year-old sister and had fired the sawed-off rifle once before at her just before he shot her in the head on June 14.

Deputy Public Defender Sharon Petrosino had asked the judge to allow Hubler to remain with his parents under home supervision, arguing that the shooting was clearly an accident.

But Judge Robert Jameson denied the request, citing the fact that Hubler had once before been on home supervision after he admitted shooting someone with a BB gun in 1988.

The judge also noted that Hubler also had been involved in receiving stolen property, including a gun.
