South Korean demonstrators have hurled about 260,000 firebombs in the past year, injuring 383 policemen and destroying 32 vehicles, police said Friday.

Of 1,001 people arrested for hurling firebombs since a law against firebombs took effect July 7, 1989, at least 32 were given sentences and imprisoned, police said.

They said the others were released or were on trial. Firebomb throwers can be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
