Evita on Film: "La Prodiga (The Prodigal Woman)," the only film to star Eva Peron, the Argentine actress who inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical "Evita," will air for the first time in the United States on KMEX Channel 34 on July 22 at 9 p.m. When the film was finished in 1945, soon-to-be president Juan Peron and Eva Peron made a gentlemen's agreement with producer Miguel Machinandiarena not to release it. Juan Peron felt the film would harm his political reputation. The film was believed to have been destroyed, but Machinandiarena hid the original in a vault in Uruguay, where it was recently discovered. Eva Peron only appeared in four films.
