A Roman Catholic priest, known for his drug-fighting efforts, was charged with battery and vandalism Tuesday for allegedly painting over billboards advertising liquor and cigarettes.

The Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church, was released on $100 bond, police said. Three others who allegedly helped spread the paint have not been found. Pfleger later talked to reporters and denied any wrongdoing.
