A Roman Catholic nun has been named president of Covenant House, an international aid organization for runaways and homeless youngsters that was rocked by allegations about its founder, Father Bruce Ritter.

The agency’s 19-member board of directors named Sister Mary Rose McGeady to the top administrative post at its meeting Tuesday night.

As associate director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Brooklyn, McGeady directed a staff of 800 and had an annual budget of nearly $40 million, Ralph Pfeiffer Jr., the board chairman, said.

At Covenant House, she will be both president and chief executive director, beginning Sept. 1, he said.

Father Ritter resigned on Feb. 27, amid reports of sexual and financial misconduct.

“I look forward to the challenge of ensuring that Covenant House continues to shine as a beacon for the thousands of kids who are still out there without a family or home,” McGeady said.
