Omission in Text Left Story Unfinished

Share

May I correct an unfortunate omission to my original text in my First Person article, “A Common Enemy Hovers Over Small Circle of Friends” (July 1). The mention of Lin, a young woman whose illness had been diagnosed as inoperable lung cancer, yet survived it only to have the cancer spread to her brain, did not include two very significant sentences which turned a story of tragedy into one of triumph.

The printed version left the reader with the impression that Lin’s cancer had spread to her brain, and left it there. The excised sentences, however, read as follows:

“Lin gutted it through a long and arduous series of radiation therapy. And now she is a functioning and passionate mother and wife, a vibrant and personal testimony of God’s healing to the group.”
