Soviet Union’s Economic and Political Woes
Perhaps The Times could explain its use of the term right-wing to describe Gorbachev’s hard-line Communist rivals (“Stack Politburo, Bolster Reform,” editorial, July 11). It has always been my understanding that Communists were on the left side of the political spectrum. Wouldn’t that put capitalist-leaning Gorbachev on the right and the hard-line Communists on the left?
