P. M. BRIEFING : Toyota to Spread Out in Japan

Toyota Motor Corp. said today it will spend an estimated $1.8 billion to build a new assembly plant and two auto parts manufacturing facilities in southern and northern Japan.

Toyota said an assembly plant with annual capacity of 200,000 small-sized luxury cars will be built in Fukuoka Prefecture on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu.

The auto parts manufacturing facilities will be located on the northern main island of Hokkaido and in the northern part of Honshu main island.

The company said the production facilities will be its first such plants to be located outside the Nagoya area in central western Japan.
