Rosie Jones says she hopes to be a role model for youth as the new Miss Black America.

Jones, 26, who is from St. Louis and works in Bridgeport, Conn., was selected early today from a field of 39 contestants representing major metropolitan areas across the nation.

Jones, a computer programmer, said leadership is the most important quality a Miss Black America can have.

“I want to talk to a lot of young people,” she said.

Jacklynne Ann Fletcher of Dayton, Ohio, was second; Elaine Joyner of Columbia, S.C., was third, and Cynthia Richardson of Cincinnati was fourth.
