Tokyo Prices 16% More Than in N.Y., Study Says

TOKYO —
Prices in Tokyo are 16% higher than in New York, although a fall in the yen has helped narrow the gap, the government’s Economic Planning Agency said today.
According to the report, the figures showed an improvement from 1988, when price levels in Tokyo were 39% higher than New York. Tokyo prices are especially high for food, clothing, shoes, energy, water supply and rent, the report said.
