Plastic Container Maker Booming: Tennessee’s Constar International, the largest U.S. maker of plastic jars, bottles and other containers, has experienced a growth explosion due to increasing demand for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging. Last year, Constar formed a European venture with Wellman Inc. of New Jersey and Enimont, an Italian chemical company. The consortium has emerged as Europe’s No. 1 PET container manufacturer. Constar Chairman Charles Casey believes that demand for PET bottles will grow in Europe, as it did in the United States--as much as 20% annually over a three-year period. Financial Times
