Alhambra : Moratorium May End

Share

Interim standards to reduce apartment density may signal the end of a 3-month-old moratorium on apartment and condominium construction.

The City Council on Monday voted 4 to 0 to adopt the new requirements for multiunit residential areas. Planners will begin to consider buildings that comply with the new standards, but the moratorium will remain in effect and nothing can be built until the council permanently adopts the requirements, Assistant City Manager P. Michael Paules said.

Moratorium Lifted--A July 26 digest item incorrectly stated that a 3-month-old building moratorium was still in effect in Alhambra’s high-density residential areas. The moratorium was lifted when the City Council passed new building standards July 24.

Among the measures:

* Buildings can be no higher than 35 feet.

* Maximum driveway width is 12 feet for 10 or fewer parking spaces.

* Maximum floor-area ratio is 60% for lots less than 20,000 square feet and 70% for lots larger than 20,000 square feet. The floor-area ratio is the percentage of the property covered by living space.
