“Pretty Woman? Pretty Low.” That’s what the 4-by-5-inch advertisement in today’s Variety says to Julia Roberts.

The ad in the show business publication was placed after Roberts called Abbeville, S.C., “horribly racist” and a “living hell” in the Aug. 9 issue of Rolling Stone.

The Oscar-nominated actress was here in May filming “Sleeping With the Enemy,” which has yet to be released.

She stars with Richard Gere in the box office hit “Pretty Woman.”

More than 100 residents contributed money for the $467 ad signed by Proud Citizens of Upstate South Carolina.

“Are there racists here?” the ad asks. “Perhaps some, as there are throughout the world. But they do not define us. . . . Our area may not offer the glamour of Hollywood, but this is our home. And we love it.”
