McDonald’s Will Switch to Composting, Recycling: The fast-food giant said it would join with the Environmental Defense Fund to study alternatives to its plans to incinerate garbage from its 11,000 restaurants worldwide. Under consideration will be source reduction and composting, recycling and reusing trash. Many environmentalists object to the ash and air emissions of incineration. EDF will release results of the study whether or not McDonald’s accepts its recommendations.
