Japanese Swimmer Leads American Cup

Famiko Okuna of Japan was in first place after the solo preliminaries of the American Cup IV synchronized swimming championships Thursday at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Okuna scored 91.44 points to lead the field of 26 swimmers.

The United States’ two performers--each country is allowed two swimmers--finished second and third. Suzannah Dyroen of Santa Clara was second with a score of 91.84 and Jill Slavery of Walnut Creek was third (90.84).
