Middle East Peace Process
Sheinbaum warns that if Israel doesn’t meet the PLO’s demands, the attacks will become more violent. But what will happen if Israel does give away the land? The radical elements within the PLO--allegedly not under Arafat’s sphere of influence--have given no indication that they will curtail terrorism in any way until the central platform of the PLO’s charter is realized: namely, the dismantling and destruction of Israel.
Sheinbaum’s smear that Shamir is “gleeful” about the prospect of continued violence is beneath contempt. Every Israeli, from liberal to conservative, from Arab to Hasid, shares the genuine desire for peace. They have to. They live in the line of fire. Stanley Sheinbaum does not.
