Susan Gilbert, Title Officer

Susan Gilbert of Lancaster, who was a title officer for 25 years with several title companies in the Antelope Valley, has died at home. She was 52.

Born Susan Roberts in San Francisco, she died Monday of cancer, said her daughter Anne Gilbert.

Mrs. Gilbert, a resident of the Antelope Valley for 40 years, worked for Stewart West Coast Title, TICOR, Trans American Title and Fidelity National Title.

She served as head scorekeeper and was a member of the board of directors of the El Dorado Little League at Gilbert Memorial Field for 30 years. The field was named for her and her husband of 31 years, Joseph D. Gilbert Jr., who died in 1986.

She is survived by her parents, William and Clara Roberts of Quartz Hill; a brother, Wayne Roberts of Quartz Hill; a sister, Bonnie Gilbert; sons Joe Gilbert and Scott Gilbert of Lancaster; daughters Anne Gilbert and Sally Eslick of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

A Rosary vigil will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Murphy Mortuary Chapel, and the funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Lancaster. Donations can be made in Mrs. Gilbert’s name to the American Cancer Society.
