DHAKA, Bangladesh — Doctors Wednesday called off a nationwide strike after 19 days when the government promised to review a ban on private practice.
Hundreds of patients were reported to have died from lack of care during the strike by the country’s 8,000 doctors.
Abdul Majid, president of the Bangladesh Medical Assn., said the doctors will give the government three weeks to formulate a new health policy.
Bangladesh, one of the world’s poorest countries, spends less than $1 per person annually on health care for its 110 million people.
