Share
From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The council of state, a quasi-legislative body set up in March when Haiti’s latest government was formed, declared that it is using its “right of veto” to censure the policies of Provisional President Ertha Pascal Trouillot’s government. It accused the government of not respecting any of the promises made to the nation and of financial incompetence, corruption and nepotism. The practical effect of the action is not clear. So far, the Trouillot regime has ignored the council’s right to veto government measures and is even suspected of killing two of the council members.
