The United States, led by Terry Lewis’ strong fencing performance, took the lead in the team competition at the women’s World Modern Pentathlon Championships in Linkoping, Sweden.

Eva Fjellerup of Denmark won 35 of 45 matches for 1,072 points to lead the individual competition. Lewis had a 30-15 won-lost record and was tied for fourth with 952 points.

The United States had an overall score of 2,688 points and led West Germany by 24 points going into today’s swimming and pistol shooting.
