The United States volleyball team seems almost certain to reach the final eight of the 11th World Women’s Championships in Beijing after a straight-sets victory over Brazil.
Cuba, the Soviet Union and defending-champion China were assured of advancing to the next stage of the 10-day tournament by winning their second matches and remaining undefeated.
The Americans, who started as underdogs, continued to dominate Group D by beating Brazil, 15-9, 15-10, 15-5. They upset the East Germans in a group match on Wednesday and face winless Argentina today.
