From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An aggressive mold growing in the subways of Tashkent has eaten through concrete and attacked people, Moscow television reported. It said that subway stations in the Central Asian city have been sealed off since illnesses were reported, first by train engineers and then by passengers, about a year ago. Tests have found certain noxious molds flourishing in the tunnels, which lay “on the ancient migratory path” of the organisms, the report said. Prof. N. Dekhan-Khodzhaeva said that molds were found in the blood of 18 patients.
