NATION : Mistake Wipes Out Heirlooms
A couple’s antique furniture, family photographs and other possessions from 36 years of marriage were hauled to a landfill and bulldozed because a management company made a clerical error.
The company was ordered to clean out a foreclosure home and went to the wrong address.
“At first it was such a shock,” said Marjorie Glaser, 53, who discovered the house that she had lived in for nearly 35 years was virtually empty. “We had our things here, our memories and stuff. That’s why it’s so upsetting.”
Glaser and her husband, Kenneth, 55, put the value of their antiques, photographs, silver and nearly every other item in the house at $60,000. They have filed a lawsuit, which seeks actual damages plus $3 million in punitive damages, against the J. B. Goodwin Management Corp.
