Three Palestinians were killed by Israelis in August, equaling the lowest monthly death toll of the 33-month Palestinian uprising, according to figures released Sunday.

July’s toll was also three.

The Israeli Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories attributed the lower toll to an army policy of avoiding confrontations with stone-throwers.

“The decrease in the number of (Palestinians) killed by the security forces in the territories continues,” the center said in a written statement. “It can be explained by a more restrained policy on opening fire.”

Also in August, Palestinians in the occupied territories killed at least 11 fellow Arabs on suspicion of collaborating with the Israeli authorities, Arab reports said.

At least 728 Palestinians have died at the hands of Israeli soldiers and civilians since the uprising began in December, 1987.
