Union Rejects New York Post Demand: The largest union at the New York Post unanimously rejected a management demand that workers take 30% pay cuts or face closure of the paper, the newspaper reported. Members of the Newspaper Guild unanimously approved a resolution by voice vote, calling the proposal “obscene and degrading,” the paper said. Post owner Peter Kalikow has threatened to close the paper on Sept. 15 if he doesn’t get $17 million worth of givebacks from the paper’s nine unions. Other unions have not responded to management’s proposals, which labor leaders received Wednesday. Round-the-clock negotiations are expected to begin next week. The Newspaper Guild represents 337 reporters, editors, salespersons and clerical workers at the city’s oldest paper.
