Revising SAT Questions

Share

The feminist movement is angry because female students, who get higher grades in school score lower on the SAT than do males. This discrepancy, in and of itself, indicates that girls are discriminated against by the test, this special-interest group proclaims.

There are more logical reasons for this situation. One is that girls take fewer math and science courses than do boys. Fewer girls, therefore, gain the rigorous mental development these courses involve.

Girls often are catered to by their teachers, systematically receiving higher grades than do boys for the same quality of school work. Boys regularly are seen as inherently less able than girls by their teachers.

Tampering with highly respected tests like the SAT simply to please special-interest groups’ peculiar needs is not a genuine way to make sure every student gets a “fair shot at success.”
