Japanese 1989 Birth Rate Hits New Low, 1,246,802

TOKYO —
The number of babies born in Japan last year fell by 67,204 from a year earlier to a record low 1,246,802, the Health and Welfare Ministry said.
The previous low was 1,314,006 in 1988, a ministry official said.
