Cypress Point Golf Club was eliminated from the 1991 AT&T; Pebble Beach National Pro-Am because it doesn’t have a minority member.

The decision, based on a recent PGA Tour directive, followed the recent PGA Championship at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Birmingham, Ala., where civil rights groups had threatened to protest unless the club admitted a black member, which it later did.

Cypress Point is one of three courses used in the Monterey Peninsula event, to be held Jan. 31 through Feb. 3. The tournament will continue with the format of three golf courses--Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill and a third to be determined.

Cypress Point has an all-white membership of 250, with a seven-year waiting list. Club officials said minority members have never applied.
