Sportswear Company Files Suit Over Logo: Tri Fit Sportswear Inc. sued one of its main competitors, the Gitano Group, for using a logo similar to Tri Fit’s. The federal lawsuit alleges that Gitano’s logo of two squares above a rectangle with “Gitano” printed inside is “confusingly similar” to Tri Fit’s trademark. Inside Tri Fit’s logo are athletes engaged in different sports. The suit contends that since the companies produce similar clothing lines, the similarity between the logos is an effort by Gitano to “palm off its goods as those of Tri Fits.” (Case No. 90-4917. Filed Sept. 13, 1990).
