P.M. BRIEFING : Eurotunnel Diggers Closing In

LILLE, France —
French and British crews digging the first tunnel under the English Channel are only 1.6 miles apart and will meet in six to eight weeks, the French-British consortium in charge of the project said today.
“The first direct contact between British and French teams should take place in early December,” and the complete linkage should be finished by the end of January, 1991, a communique from the Eurotunnel consortium said.
