Pasadena Opposes NEA Restrictions

Share

Pasadena joined the cities of Long Beach, Santa Monica and Los Angeles on Tuesday by approving a resolution opposing any restrictive language in National Endowment for the Arts grants.

The Board of Directors also authorized the Pasadena Arts Commission to mail letters urging Pasadena residents to write their congressional representatives on the issue.

Congress this month is expected to consider funding restrictions that would stop federal money from being given to work considered obscene, racist, sexist, anti-religious or sexually exploitative of minors. Various arts organizations have protested, saying such regulations will open the door to censorship and inhibit the expression of ideas.
