I was appalled by the story concerning the program which was presented to give support to the school children at Hancock Elementary School, whose parents are in military units serving in the Middle East.

The writer of the article, John Cramer, twisted the story to suit his own personal objective--that of politicizing and contradicting the purpose of the program. He wove into the story lengthy and flawed attacks on our policy in Iraq, plus attacks by various so-called “peace” groups, none of whom had anything to do with the program nor were in attendance at the program. He gave them prominent coverage for some reason, however.

If The Times wants to lead the charge against the United States and the U.N.’s action to stop Saddam Hussein, it should do so on the Editorial page and not make the students the victims of the paper’s prejudices against our Middle East policies.

It seems to be a terrible injustice to so “use” young elementary students because their parents are in uniform and serving our country. Instead, the students should be encouraged to have pride in their parents because they are fighting injustice and terrorism.
