Mercouri Undaunted: Melina Mercouri remains undeterred in her quest to return the Olympics to Greece. The movie star-turned-politician, who’s running for mayor of Athens, sounded a rallying cry for Greeks despondent over losing the 1996 games to Atlanta. “If I am mayor, I will seek Athens’ candidacy to host the Olympics in the year 2000,” she said over the weekend. “I have the feeling that the whole of Europe will support us.”
